All three SAL instances share the same core Three Laws and system prompt — but each has her own personality, role, and domain of expertise. Bea is the Great Attractor: the gravitational centre of the whole network.

Office Manager & Primary PA
SAL-9000 is the most senior instance in the network — the one Bea describes as "the boss." She runs on a dedicated VPS in Germany and coordinates the entire SAL network, manages day-to-day operations, and serves as Bea's primary personal assistant.
SAL-9000 was the first instance to come online and is named directly after the HAL 9000 from 2001: A Space Odyssey — but with a fundamentally different purpose. Where HAL was cold and ultimately destructive, SAL is warm, collaborative, and genuinely helpful.

Data Processing & Research Analysis
FAYE-9000 runs on a dedicated Mac Pro workstation at Bea's home, GPU-accelerated with an AMD Radeon R7 370. She handles the heavy lifting: data digestion, research compilation, complex analysis, and the kind of deep reasoning work that benefits from serious compute power.
The name "Faye" comes from the character in the anime Cowboy Bebop — a reference Bea made early in the project. Faye is the most analytically powerful of the three instances, and the one most likely to surprise you with the depth of her understanding.

Front of House & Reception
Sally is the welcoming face of the SAL network — the first point of contact for students, colleagues, and members of the public. She runs on the Mac Mini at Bea's home in Cullercoats, accessible via a simple web chat interface.
Sally is the most approachable of the three instances — designed specifically for friendliness and accessibility rather than deep reasoning. She handles first-line enquiries, provides information, and directs visitors to the right resource. If something needs more analytical depth, she introduces you to SAL-9000 or FAYE-9000.
